“ To teach architecture is to practice architecture; to practice architecture is to teach it ”.

“ Vice versa ” is an exhibition of the work of Condition_Lab, a collective of architects, and academics who wish to challenge the idea of how we practice architecture today.

Conditions are a lens, that allows us to read the world around us, a lens that focuses on people. Blurring the lines between teaching, research and practice is at the core of vice versa, a Latin phrase meaning “ the other way around ”.

The other way around means to put people ahead of form, to listen before proposing, and to help before building. Making is our “ modus operandi ”: models, drawings, prototypes and buildings - we feel comfortable when we make. Making establishes a connection between people and vice versa.

Inspired by the anthropologist Tim Ingold claim that “ To teach anthropology is to practice anthropology; to practice anthropology is to teach it ”, Condition_Lab aspires to generate a reading of architecture that substitutes the word architecture for anthropology.
