Architectural Research for Knowledge Economy & Communities – ARK

Background

ARK is a collaborative research and design platform known as ARK (Architectural Research for Knowledge Economy and Communities), established at CUHK-ARCH to facilitate multiple real-world projects for Industry-Academia investigation. Members and subject matter experts from Chinachem Group (CCG) and CUHK-School of Architecture (CUHK-ARCH) are invited to participate and contribute on a project basis.


Goals

This platform aims to foster knowledge co-production and synergy with CUHK-ARCH's current educational activities, encompassing:

  • Teaching programs such as design studios and elective courses
  • Student placements and summer internships
  • Knowledge exchange through international forums, publications, and exhibitions
  • Knowledge-based entrepreneurship and curatorship
  • Other research initiatives


Interests

  • Emerging architectural discourse, project opportunities, design methodologies, building typologies, and systems stemming from the 21st-century knowledge economy driven by sectors like data and digitalization, biotechnology, automated transport and logistics, electrified mobility, regenerative energy, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, etc.
  • Urbanisation, urbanism, and urbanity within the context of the contemporary paradigm shift in our time and city. This includes alternative approaches and strategies essential for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), focusing on topics such as future productivity and competitiveness of new development zones in the Northern Metropolis and Hetao.
  • Sustainability performance, scalability potential, and socio-environmental impact on people, the planet, and long-term prosperity.


The Role

Mr. TAM, Nelson as an investigator within ARK, he and his studio is actively contributing to a design research project in collaboration with partners such as Dr. Gina Jiang from the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology and Mr. Alvin Yip from CCG.
