Crowd Wisdom in Placemaking
Lecture Information
Date 18.9.2025
Time HKT 12:00pm – 01:30pm
Location G/F Atrium, LSK Architecture Building, CUHK
This lecture explores how collective intelligence can shape new possibilities in architecture and design. Drawing from projects by Wendy Teo Atelier and Borneo Laboratory, including architectural experimentations, cross-regional collaborations, and research-led initiatives. Wendy Teo examines how crowd wisdom emerges when communities, cultures, and disciplines intersect. By foregrounding participatory processes, ancestral knowledge, and non-extractive practices, the lecture reflects on how design can move beyond individual authorship to cultivate shared ownership, reciprocity, and regenerative placemaking. This is an in-person event open to the public, with no reservations required. All are welcome.

Wendy Teo is a Malaysian-born UK ARB/RIBA Chartered Architect, curator, researcher, and tutor dedicated to embedding socio-cultural dialogue into design. Through her multidisciplinary practice, Wendy Teo Atelier, and her creative agency, Borneo Laboratory, her work spans architecture, research, and publications, addressing cultural and social issues through critical discourse. Recently, her research has expanded into regenerative practices inspired by ancestral wisdom and rooted cultural traditions. As director of Think & Tink (formerly Ting & Ting Supermarket), she is transforming the destination into a shared platform for regional partners in art, regenerative design, and digital fabrication—a “mind factory” for bold ideas.
