What is a landscape? In particular, how can we understand the concept of open space within the dense metropolis of Hong Kong?

Is it scenery or a garden? Or an open area between city and architecture?

If we consider architecture as interior space, can all other outdoor spaces be landscape?

What do people seek in these spaces, and what kind of quality and newness do they pursue?

In this course, we aim to answer these questions by looking at how people use the various open spaces and vacant lots scattered around Hong Kong and how they can be reimagined in new ways.

What are the conditions and attributes of the open spaces that surround us? What potential do they hold? When we observe closely, how do we comprehend the character of a place? Is it a garden,
a park, or a forest?
