Pedram Ghelichi is a designer and researcher focusing on uncertainties and contingencies in architectural processes. This is the central topic of his doctoral dissertation, titled “Becoming Constructed: Beyond the Duality of Exactitude and Error”. In the thesis, he sought an alternative understanding of uncertainties, not as problems to solve but as opportunities to explore. Ever since, he has published a book chapter, several journal papers and conference proceedings on this topic.
In practice, he has also been pursuing the same direction. He started his architectural practice in Iran from 2013-16, learning from the uncertainties and contingencies of the country. After moving to Hong Kong in 2016, he collaborated with Unitinno Studio, where he designed and built a few small-scale projects in rural China, exploring the theme of his doctoral dissertation. Since 2022, he has been active in placemaking projects in various locations in Hong Kong through a series of transformable furniture and installations.
He is currently a lecturer at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
