Bernard V. Lim, is the Adjunct Professor of the School of Architecture, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. For years he has been elected Architects Registration Board Member and has been a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) contributing particularly in new initiatives for community development and local affairs.
Prof. Lim teaches Studio U3 and professional practice. He has established the Community Participation Unit under the School exploring the “participatory approach” in community architecture and planning in the Hong Kong context, through a series of actions and researches to solicit public and stakeholders' feedback, involvement and decision-making.
He has established professional specialization / research in areas of (A) Institutional, Educational, Healthcare and Elderly Buildings, (B) Sustainable designs, and (C) Community Participatory Planning and Workshops. His leading research on Innovative School Designs and Public Participation has been supported by the Quality Education Fund and Sustainable Development Fund.
He was elected the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (2005-2006); Founding President of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD); Chairman of the Building Committee, and Member of Hong Kong Housing Authority; Former Member of the Town Planning Board, Energy Advisory Committee (2004-2010), Antiquities Advisory Board and Tourism Strategy Group; and Specialist Architectural Advisor to the Legislative Council Commission in 2002.
He served the School Building Design Committee under the Education Bureau; he has been an Honorary Advisor of the Hong Kong Red Cross, Caritas Hong Kong (Social Work Services), Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, the Urban Renewal Authority District Advisory Committee (Central / Western), and appointed a Tribunal Member for the Appeal Tribunal (Buildings) and committees under the Buildings Department. He has been appointed since 2008 Chongqing Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of PRC. He has been invited to be Advisor to the Guangdong Registered Architects Association.
