Site Background - There are 4 natural villages comprising of 170 housefolds near the bridge site. Villagers cross the bridge for farming everyday and students in the village have to cross the river to go to school.
The Need - Currently, a primitive stone bridge is temporarily built for river crossing. It is washed away by the rapid water flow constantly during rainy season. Therefore, villagers need to rebuild the bridge yearly. When the water floods, they can't cross the river.

In accordance with celebrating its centenary anniversary, Tsinghua University’s Wu Zhi Qiao project team conducted a Wu Zhi Qiao exhibition within the university. In the exhibition, the plank of the bridge and a bridge mock up were displayed.

50 students from Tsinghua and HKU and professionals built 21 meters long footbridge successfully for the village from 8 Aug to 15 Aug. The bridge is named as "Tsinghua-HKU Centenary Wu Zhi Qiao”.
