Site Background - Located at the southern tip of Sichuan, Maan Qiao Village of Xinan Township is the only Dai Minority County in Sichuan.  With an annual per capita income of RMB700-1000, Maan Qiao Village is one of the poorest villages in the Township. The 6.1 degree earthquake in Panzhihua has even added burden to this deprived village since 30 August 2008.  Maan Qiao village is one of the most seriously hit one. However, with minimal media attention and external support, the village has been separated with very limited care and support from the outside world.

Project Highlight – Through the reconstruction of village house, bridge and village centre, related village infrastructure development and capacity programmes, the project demonstrates a feasible and effective way for most poor village families towards an affordable ecological living, which serves an example for other affected areas in China.
