Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for research postgraduate applicants

BSSc(Arch), Bachelor of Social Science (Architecture)

Applicants should normally have passed the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination or have an equivalent qualification.

Admission application deadlines for the academic year 2008-09 are:

  • 03 December 2007 for JUPAS applicants.
  • 04 February 2008 for local non-JUPAS applicants.
  • 29 February 2008 for non-local non-JUPAS applicants.
  • Guidelines for mainland applicants to be announced in February 2008

BSSc(Arch), Change of Major

The Department of Architecture invites applications from full-time undergraduate students in The Chinese University of Hong Kong to transfer to our BSSc(AS) programme. Applications have to reach the department’s general office on or before Monday, 30 June 2008. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to attend an interview scheduled on Friday, 4 July 2008.

MArch, Master of Architecture

Applicants should have a pre-professional architecture degree such as, the BSSc(Arch) from CUHK or RIBA part I, and relevant work experience.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree and work experience in a related field.

MPhil, Master of Philosophy (under the Articulated MPhil-PhD Programme)

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in a related field and should submit the following:

  • A statement of research interest. This should lay out the domain and direction of inquiry and should be written in English and should lie within the scope of the Department's design studios and research units.
  • Evidence of intellectual preparation. This could take the form of course papers or other work with a research component.
  • Other materials as specified by the Graduate School on its website.

Applications are due 29 February 2008 for studies beginning in fall 2008.

PhD, Doctor of Philosophy (under the Articulated MPhil-PhD Programme)

Applicants should have an first- or second-class bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in a related field. Those with a master's degree (or its equivalent) in a related field may apply, after acceptance, to be exempted from some requirements. All applicants should submit the following:

  • A statement of research interest. This should lay out the domain and direction of inquiry and should be written in English and should lie within the scope of the Department's design studios and research units.
  • Evidence of intellectual preparation. This could take the form of course papers or other work with a research component.
  • Other materials as specified by the Graduate School on its website.

Applications are due 29 February 2008 for studies beginning in fall 2008.
