Urbanization

The Urbanization Studio studies architecture as shaping influence of the land and city. This studio considers the existing city as a reference for design. Architecture is seen as a part of the form and process of a city and is studied through the city's temperaments and morphology. Individual work of architecture is designed in reference to the nature and conditions of the city. Secondly, this studio sees the contemporary city as point of departure for design. Architecture is considered as elements in large and complex settings. Individual work of architecture is designed as urban strategy for generating new movement, density, and public places. In this thematic studio, students design by reacting to the physical context and direct experience of sites. Term 1 project: a place of living; Term 2: a place of worship. The sites for both terms are located in Macau. Two overnight visits are planned for each of the term.
